FAQ  LaqFlat™ Flatting Formulas

Objective: 

The following table has been prepared as a guide to flatting certain Wood Kote lacquers to achieve factory gloss levels.

Materials Required:
Wood Kote SprayLaq™ 680, BrushLaq™ 680 or KatLaq™ 680
Wood Kote LaqFlat™ flatting agent
Wood Kote MacroTint™ or MiniTint™ measuring device
Wood Kote LaqThin™ T-99 Universal Lacquer Thinner
Metal Spoon
Cleanup cloths

 

Process:

  1. IMPORTANT: Before adding flatting agent it is necessary to remove an amount of lacquer from the factory container equal to the amount of flatting agent to be added.

  2. In the left column of the table below, find the row with the appropriate lacquer product and gloss level.

  3. Look across the column headings to find the desired gloss level.

  4. The amount of LaqFlat™ to be added will be listed in the cell where the above selected column and row intersect.

  5. Remove approximately the indicated amount of lacquer from the factory container.

  6. Set the MacroTint™ or MiniTint™ to the correct setting and fill with LaqFlat™ to top of the cylinder using a metal spoon.

  7. Discharge the measured LaqFlat™ into the lacquer.

  8. Repeat the measuring process if required amount of LaqFlat exceeds the capacity of the measuring device.

  9. Clean the measuring device with LaqThin™ T-99 and wipe with a cloth.

  10. LaqFlat™ should be thoroughly dispersed into the lacquer product using an air or spark-proof electric mixer or mechanical agitation for less than 2 minutes.

  11. PLEASE NOTE: These formulas are presented as a guide only. It is the responsibility of the applicator to adjust the final gloss to the appropriate levels.
